Bergen Kunsthall’s Live Studio is a new research and development space dedicated to live works and hybrid practices within the context of the visual arts. The presentation of live work by artists (including performance, music and dance) is an integral part of Bergen Kunsthall’s programme, as part of our ambition to showcase the work of artists working today. The Live Studio opens possibilities to develop and produce live works in a professional working environment, in collaboration with a network of partners. New works are produced and presented through co-productions with international organisations to create visibility and possibilities for artistic live practices.
Currently in its pilot phase, the live studio provides space, equipment and curatorial dialogue to international and local artists at varying stages of their artistic progress by invitation and on the basis of an annual open call-for-proposals.
The live studio is a unique production model that is integrated in the institution and connected to discourses, bridging institutional learning and artistic practice. It is a direct response to the fact of lacking opportunities of development for live practices within the visual arts sector whilst its presentation increases in arts institutions. Bergen Kunsthall aims to provide space for incoming international, national and local artists as an innovative platform for artist-led experimentation with local impact and of international profile.
