Michikazu Matsune

Artist Michikazu Matsune invites the people of Bergen for a cup of tea. A simple gesture becomes a space for conversation, reflection, and exchange. Book your spot and be part of this unique experience.

Under the working title Your Cup of Tea, these tea sessions take place one-on-one or in small groups. From good weather to bad taste in art, from nightmares to the meaning of life—anything can be a topic to explore.

Michikazu Matsune grew up in a seaside town in Kobe, Japan, where he spent his childhood splashing in the water and playing in the sand at a nearby beach. His curiosity about different cultures led him to move to another continent as a teenager. Now based in Vienna and spending part of his time in Bergen, Michikazu develops work across a wide range of practices, including stage performances, interventions in public and private spaces, participatory projects, and publications. Merging conceptual and documentary methods with poetry, humour, the absurd, and critique, his approach explores the interplay between global and local contexts, public and private realms, and unity and diversity within society. He is the founder of performance projects such as Homesick Festival (since 2017) and The Institute of Sleepless Nights (since 2022), and teaches performance art at the University of Arts Linz.

Michikazu drinks green tea every morning.
