ABOUT
During her residency at the Live Studio, Bergen-based artist Karina Sletten is developing two experimental composition projects.

The first one, Sonority, examines houses as a listening subject. In the project, musicians August Ramstad, Isak Osland Oskal and Karina Sletten herself will create vibrations in empty buildings with their instruments, such as the water harp, drums, and saxophone, which are then processed into a multi-channel sound work where the building’s acoustic response functions as a co-composer. Through this process, Sletten investigates how sound functions as a central element in the experience of place alongside the more dominant visual field.

The second project is a collaboration with Sean Minhui Tashi Chua, a multidisciplinary scientist and artist working across remote sensing and data science with a focus on Earth systems, polar regions, and sound. Together, they will develop interactive sound installations that use the human body as an instrument. Using Chua’s code system for tracking Arctic sea ice, they translate human movement into sound using TouchDesigner and Ableton. The project aims to develop a flexible work that can be adapted for children with cognitive and physical functional variations.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES
Sean Minhui Tashi Chua is an interdisciplinary scientist and artist who works across earth observation and data science with a focus on polar regions, sound, and immersive storytelling. He is a researcher at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre in Bergen.

August Kristian Blich Ramstad is a musician in Bergen, with a great passion for experimental music and art. August is a skilled performer on several instruments, with experience on both guitar and semi-modular systems, but focuses primarily on saxophone. His musical style is characterised by a predilection for improvisation, eccentricity, and experimental expressions, particularly inspired by free jazz, rock, and noise music.

Isak Osland Oskal is a musician from Tromsø / Romsa, based in Bergen. He plays in the underground bands Selvforakt and Etterlat Ethvert Håp, Alle Som Går Inn. He has developed his own style, exploring, among other things, traditional Sámi instruments, electronic instruments, and the water harp.

Karina Sletten is an interdisciplinary artist who works with sound art that is strongly influenced by social geography and landscape theories. She studied at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and has an MFA in art and public space. She has exhibited at the Autumn Exhibition (2025), Culture of Braga (2025), Oslo Architecture Triennale (2022), and Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art (2021). Her works are process-based and serve as outlets for concrete, socially relevant themes centred on the experience of time, place, and sound.
