Karen Eide Bøen & Roar Sletteland (5–16 Aug 2024)

At the Live Studio, Karen Eide Bøen and Roar Sletteland will work on a new laboratory project called Black Canvas. The project uses several suspended aluminium sheets fitted with contact microphones and transducers, which amplify the tiny vibrations in the sheets, creating a feedback effect, a low humming drone with rich overtones. It highlights sound as a bodily and spatial experience. Karen and Roar want to explore them in relation to performative and interactive actions. During the two weeks, they will improvise with a set of chosen materials and invite guests to test out participation and/or audience situations. Working with touch, slow movements, closed eyes, and sensations in the meeting between metal, paint, vibrations, clothing, skin, and bone, Black Canvas aims to explore vulnerability and comfort.
