During a two-week residency, Nicola Gunn continues her research into the dramaturgy of translation, text as image and language as sound with a new performance work called Text and Image.

Text and Image attempts to make sense of an artistic process that involves continually re-writing; of making versions, iterations and permutations; of complicating the role of writer, translator, performer and character; and that considers how the work of composition and editing can continually create new narratives, new relationships, new meaning over time. In Text and Image, Nicola offers her own fantasy life as a place to start thinking from. The work moves between philosophical questions about translation and a deeper search to put into words and pictures a feeling that seems impossible to articulate: an attempt to translate desire and to put an identity in translation. Working with spatialised sound, electronic music, and literary aesthetics Nicola will be moving towards the final stages of the process prior to premiering at Rosendal Teater followed by Meteor Festival.

Nicola Gunn is an artist who works between performance, choreography and text. Her works have been presented in 19 countries and at venues including Venezia Biennale di Danza, Tanz im August / HAU, Tanzquartier Wein, La Villette, Southbank Centre, PS122 / Coil Festival and National Gallery of Victoria amongst others. She lives and works in Bergen, Norway and teaches Performance and Time-based Art at the Art Academy of the University of Bergen.
