In the southern tip of Indiana, just north of Louisville, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ryan Davis has spent years cultivating his own brand of Americana-noir. His debut Dancing On The Edge (2023) won wide acclaim from press and audiences alike, with many already calling it a modern classic of American songwriting. In spring 2025 the band toured the UK and Ireland; UNCUT’s Allan Jones called their Kilkenny Roots Festival show “an emotional exorcism”. Their second album, New Threats From The Soul, arrived last summer to glowing reviews — catchy melodies, bold arrangements, and lyrics that blend the earthy with the grand.
Styrofoam Winos are a Nashville trio — Lou Turner, Trevor Nikrant and Joe Kenkel — who share the songwriting and rotate instruments and vocals across a set. Real Time (2024) came out on Ryan Davis’ own label Sophomore Lounge, and Any River followed on Dear Life Records in June. The music sits close to country but travels lighter than most: clean guitars, understated vocals, and the odd melodica or bass clarinet.
