Vill Vill Vest presents Sverre Sæbø Quintet and Mosaicpotamia at Landmark on Saturday. Vill Vill Vest returns for its eleventh edition from 5 to 7 November 2026, with more than 60 new artists from across Norway on stages large and small around Bergen. Landmark is one of the festival’s venues on all three nights.
Sverre Sæbø Quintet have in recent years become a recognised name on the Norwegian jazz scene. Their debut album, If, however, you have not lost your self control, came out in spring 2025 to acclaim from Norwegian and international jazz press, and the quintet have played Soddjazz, Kongsberg Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival and Bergen Jazzforum, among others. Their music nods clearly to jazz history while carrying a contemporary Nordic twist, played with real drive and a healthy dose of humour by some of Western Norway’s strongest young improvisers: Sverre Sæbø (double bass), Heidi Kvelvane (alto saxophone), Aksel Røed (tenor saxophone), Andreas Hatzikiriakidis (trumpet) and Amund Nordstrøm (drums).
Mosaicpotamia is a musical exploration of memory, place and cultural belonging, led by musician and composer Mazlum Karataş, a familiar figure on Tromsø’s music scene. The project draws on the rich musical traditions of Mesopotamia and brings them into contact with contemporary electronic music and improvisation. Karataş, on electric saz, is joined by Brazilian percussionist and composer Eduardo Scaramuzza and Trondheim-based fiddler and multi-instrumentalist Eiliv Ribe. Together they create contemplative soundscapes in which Mesopotamian and Nordic traditions meet as equals.
