"Iter Subterraneum": One Fig, Ingela Ihrman

Ingela Ihrman works with performance, sculpture and costume, often with humor and tenderness as an introduction to questions about the body, desire and identification. Ihrman is known for her transformations in which she enters plant and animal forms, human and non-human bodies sliding into each other.
One Fig is part of the exhibition Iter Subterraneum, where the work is presented as a sculpture in Gallery III. This evening it is activated as a performance. The costume depicts a fig divided in two, with the soft interior of the fruit exposed. When the work is put into use, division and movement become a simple, bodily gesture in the space. The performance work is performed in the exhibition, which is open late for the occasion until 19:00.
Ingela Ihrman (b. 1985, Kalmar) is based in Stockholm. She works with sculptural costumes and performance that explore what it means to be alive, through humor and biological metaphors. Selected exhibitions include Malmö Konsthall (2024), the Venice Biennale (2019), and the Gwangju Biennale (2016).
