Hverdag Books presents the launch of The Fallow Year: A Guidebook, a new risograph artist publication by Amber Simone Veronica Ablett.

You are warmly invited to an evening of readings, stories, music and listening. Everyone is invited to bring a sound, song or track that relates to rest for you: something that reminds you of community, acceptance, resistance, or that affirms who you are or want to become, together with a few words about why you chose it.

The evening includes readings from the book by Amber Ablett and Eva Rowson, Anine Fatou Bråten and Kaeto Sweeney, and Black arts initiative Touki, all contributors to the book and the ongoing Hvileåret project. Vegan soup and tea made from foraged medicinal greens will be served.

The Fallow Year: A Guidebook leads readers through questions, lessons, exercises and proposals from Hvileåret, an ongoing artistic research project exploring rest as an integral part of resistance, care and long-term liberation. It includes essays, conversations, poems and reflections by contributors including Akwugo Emejulu and Leah Bassel, Anine Fatou Bråten and Kaeto Sweeney, Lola Olufemi, Eva Rowson, Ro Averin and Vikram Kolmannskog.

Amber Simone Veronica Ablett is an artist and writer based on Osterøy, Norway, working with performance, text, sound and re-enactment.

Eva Rowson (UK/NOR) is an artist, curator and Managing Director of Bergen Kjøtt. She is a co-founder of GRIP, a training programme for cis women, non-binary and transgender people as sound and lighting technicians.

Anine Fatou Bråten is a writer, public speaker and antiracist and feminist activist based in Bergen, and the founder of Female Minority Voices.

Kaeto Sweeney (b. 1993) is an artist, filmmaker and party maker based in Bergen, and the founder of ASTERISK, a queer multidisciplinary event and platform.

Touki is an independent Bergen-based organisation that engages young minorities, especially Black youths, in the arts and politics, and highlights Black voices in the arts.
