Architectural Practice
Theo De Meyer + Stephanie Everaert (BE)
19:00

Architect Theo De Meyer lives and works in Ghent, Belgium. De Meyer moves between architecture, design and the arts, often reconciling the various disciplines in his projects. He plays with context and scale, interprets and transforms, creating new worlds from the act of building. In addition to his work as an architect, De Meyer is also teaching.

Collaboration plays an important role in his cross-disciplinary practice. He and doorzon interieur architecten together represent the core of the modular collective Stand Van Zaken (‘State of Affairs’), who create furniture and architecture in collaboration with specialists in various fields. Driven by the shared enthusiasm of its members, Stand van Zaken supports the creation and development of objects, buildings and ideas.

Stephanie Everaert is the co-founder of Doorzon interior architects together with Caroline Lateur.
Their assignments were initially situated in the private sector, ranging from new construction and renovations to smaller interventions such as specifically custom furniture. However, over the past 17 years, their field of work has further expanded to include public and international projects, numerous prestigious competition designs, scenographies and exhibitions.

Since 2016, they have both worked as lecturers at KU Leuven (Faculty of Architecture, Campus Sint-Lucas Ghent) where they, together with Prof. Dr. Ir.-Arch. Fredie Floré, leads the master’s thesis studio ‘Issues from practice’.
Partly because of and thanks to these multidisciplinary and international partnerships, the importance and role of the interior architect in a broad, socially relevant context is examined and explored. This is one of the ambitions that Doorzon wishes to further promote, in order to give a face to the discipline of the interior architect within Flanders and beyond.

The lecture is curated by Cristian Stefanescu (Assistant Professor, BAS & founder of a-works | architecture + art) and co-hosted by the Bergen School of Architecture (BAS) and Bergen Arkitektforening (BAF)
