We invite Bergen-based artists to apply for the Live Studio 2025

Bergen Kunsthall’s Live Studio is a research and development space that is dedicated to live works and hybrid practices within the context of the visual arts. Currently, in its early phase, the Live Studio provides space, equipment and curatorial dialogue to international and local artists at varying stages of their artistic progress – by invitation, through collaboration, and on the basis of an annual open Call for Proposals. The Live Studio is an approximately 70m2 space with large windows, located on the second floor of Bergen Kunsthall overlooking Lille Lungegårdsvannet.

Following the Call for Proposals pilot year in 2023, Bergen Kunsthall can offer five 2-week slots to Bergen-based artists in 2025. We invite project proposals at all stages – from the very beginning, spending time researching or initiating new collaborations to developing ideas further and final tweaking.

Bergen Kunsthall aims to provide an arena for artistic practices that often fall in between the categories of artistic disciplines. We hope that the space, professional equipment, and conversations with Bergen Kunsthall’s curatorial team will help the selected artists develop their practices further.

What we can offer:
· Use of Live Studio and in-house equipment

· Curatorial dialogue and feedback sessions with members of Bergen Kunsthall’s curatorial team

· Option to share work in a semi-public format

· 5000,- NOK Grant

Equipment:
· The studio has a PA system

· We have a range of equipment to use in-house depending on availability, such as microphones, screens, projectors

Access:
· The studio is accessible 24/7 through the Live Studio entrance

· There are three flights of stairs, and an elevator is available

Facilities:
· A fully-equipped kitchen

· All-gender and wheelchair-accessible bathrooms are part of the studio

Disclaimer on sound levels:
With offices located on the same floor and a gallery space underneath, we currently ask the residents to keep the sound volume to a level that “respects the neighbours” between 09:00—17:00. After 17:00, there are no restrictions on noise levels, except Thursdays, until 20:00, as the galleries are open.
