Festival Artist Lene Berg in conversation with Axel Wieder on the occasion of the opening of the Festival Exhibition 2022.
Lene Berg works as an artist and filmmaker and over the past two decades has produced outstanding works that question the way in which images create facts. In the Festival Exhibition, she presents an extensive new project titled Fra Far (From Father).
Lene Berg, born 1965, lives and works as a film director and visual artist in Berlin and Oslo. She studied film at Dramatiska Institutet in Stockholm. Berg’s latest production, the autobiographical film False Belief, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2019 and was nominated for the Amnesty and Teddy Awards. She represented Norway in the 55th Venice Biennale with the film Dirty Young Loose (2013).
Axel Wieder is the director of Bergen Kunsthall and curator of the exhibition.
On Plattform
Plattform is Bergen Kunsthall’s series of lectures and debates with artists and prominent thinkers. This season we present talks and conversations that expand on the ideas of our summer exhibitions with Lene Berg and Damla Kilickiran, and Cruising Utopia – the first live project of 2022. The talks will dive into central themes of Lene Berg’s work: memory, storytelling and working at the intersection of visual arts and film. Italian philosopher Federico Campagna’s contemporary take on the reconstruction of realities has been a strong inspiration for Oslo-based artist Damla Kilickiran.
Plattform events are also live-streamed on our website, Facebook and Vimeo.
On The Festival Exhibition
The Festival Exhibition is Bergen Kunsthall’s flagship exhibition, established in 1953. Each Summer, we present a large scale exhibition with new work by a Norwegian artist, in connection with the Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen). The exhibition is considered the most important solo presentation fora Norwegian artist in their home country and creates a national debate about the state of the art, similarly to the Turner Prize in the UK.
Recent Festival Artists at Bergen Kunsthall include Bjarne Melgaard (2003), AK Dolven (2004), Elmgreen & Dragset (2005), Børre Sæthre (2007), Marianne Heier (2012), Gardar Eide Einarsson (2013), Ane Hjort Guttu (2015), Fredrik Vaerslev (2016), Mari Slaattelid (2019), Joar Nango (2020) and Elisabeth Haarr (2021).
