TORILL NØST PHOTOGRAPHY

Staged portraits, and the photograph as a study of the human body, have both been important aspects of Bergen based artist Torill Nøst’s work. Her new works for this exhibition show teenage boys and girls, photographed from behind. Repetitions of anonymous bodies, brings out contrasts between the naked skin and long hair of the girl models, and the boys’ sculptural head shapes. The pictures are not easily labelled as either portraits or classical nudes, as the hidden faces of the models make the images seem more universal and iconic than traditionally individual portraits.
