BANKS VIOLETTE

American artist Banks Violette explores the dark sides of contemporary culture. Black metal, ritual murder and self destruction are some of the issues Violette has dealt with in his installations. Violette has gained considerable attention in the international art world with his minimalistic, and at the same time theatrical and seductive art works. His sculptures combine a striking beauty and clean aesthetic with an underlying theme, enforcing a confrontation that raises uncomfortable questions. Violette’s art, often labelled “New Gothic”, creates a meeting point between codes and signs from youth culture with aspects of romanticism in art history. Violette will produce a new site specific work for the exhibition in Gallery No.5. The exhibition is a collaboration between Bergen Kunsthall and the Borealis festival for contemporary music.
