Bergen Assembly, Bergen’s triennial exhibition of contemporary art, returns for its fourth edition to all galleries of Bergen Kunsthall.
Bergen Assembly 2022, titled Yasmine and the Seven Faces of the Heptahedron invites you to follow Yasmine, a fictional character, on her quest for a mysterious form, a seven- sided solid body called the Heptahedron. Her search is guided by seven enigmatic characters that she encounters along the way: the Professor, the Bonimenteur, the Moped Rider, the Fortune Teller, an Acrobats, the Coalman and the Tourist.
These seven characters lend their names to seven exhibitions spread across different venues in Bergen. Each exhibition brings together three distinct artistic positions, offering a multiplicity of perspectives. At Bergen Kunsthall you will encounter the Bonimenteur, an exhibition comprised of a new light installation by the artist duo GRAU, paintings by Bernhard Martin and an installation by the design group Neue Gestaltung that retells the original tale of The Heptahedron. In gallery V you will find The Curator’s Room where you can immerse yourself in the artistic practices, themes and thinking behind this edition of Bergen Assembly. After having shared this quest with Yasmine, meeting each of the seven characters, what remains as memories in your mind gives form to your own Heptahedron.
The quest of the Heptahedron is based on a play written by the French author Thomas Clerc after a performance by Saâdane Afif that took place in Marrakech in 2014.
