To celebrate the opening of Tori Wrånes + Rindon Johnson’s new exhibitions at Bergen Kunsthall, we have invited DJ Nefertiti to set the tone and get us all dancing!
Oslo-based DJ Nefertiti has for over two decades made the city dance to rhythms from the SWANA region. With roots in Somalia and Norway, Idil – who took the artist name Nefertiti in 2009 – has created a unique space for club music rooted in Arabic and African culture, where pulsating electronic beats meet deep musical traditions. Nefertiti has been a pioneer in the Norwegian club scene, starting her own club nights to fill a void in the music landscape – a place where the body is invited to move, and the rhythms speak a global language. Her sets are uncompromising and hypnotic, and as she herself says: “It’s impossible to stand still”. She points to increased accessibility and curiosity as reasons why this music has gained a foothold, but it is also her own ability to be a bridge-builder and communicator that keeps people coming back – night after night.
