On the occasion of Åsa Elzén’s exhibition in Gallery 5, “Notes on a Fallow – The Fogelstad Group and Earth”, we welcome you to join a conversation between Åsa Elzén, Benedicte Brun and Merete Røstad. The conversation will take place at the centre of Gallery 5, where a large carpet made by Åsa Elzén is displayed on a podium where visitors can walk and sit without shoes.
Åsa Elzén (b.1972 in Visby, Sweden) lives in Näshulta, Sörmland. Elzén is currently collaborating with Malin Arnell on_ Forest Calling – A Never-ending Contaminated Collaboration or Dancing is a Form of Forest Knowledge_, a public art commission related to Fogelstad, supported by Public Art Agency Sweden.
Merete Røstad is an interdisciplinary artist, educator and researcher whose practice is rooted in examining collective memory research, memory work and archives. Through research and process-based projects, Røstad examines the social and political meanings of sites. She explores how people consciously and unconsciously interact with stories written in the environment and how we read the traces that the stories leave behind. Her projects investigate the potential of how spatial and temporal constructions can serve as catalysts for a more profound commitment to history, identity and memory.
Ecologist Benedicte Brun, a graduate of the Norwegian Biotechnology University, has, through her involvement in the grassroots movement Global Transition Network, initiated a series of experiments for the development of food forests in the West Norwegian context. Through her Food Forest projects, Benedicte creates living seedbanks while at the same time highlighting the issues that arise when food is to be grown in urban contexts characterized by industrial pollution. In Bergen, she is the coordinator behind Matskogen på Landås.
Plattform is Bergen Kunsthall’s series of conversations and debates with artists and prominent thinkers.
