Bergen Kunsthall welcomes you to this autumn’s two exhibitions: Edgar Calel from Guatemala with the exhibition “Ni Musmut (It’s Breezing)” and Åsa Elzén’s “Notes on a Fallow – The Fogelstad Group and Earth.

The autumn’s leading exhibition is dedicated to the artist Edgar Calel (1987), who is showing his art in Scandinavia for the first time. Calel belongs to the Kaqchikel, a Mayan people who live in Guatemala. His art is both inspired by and explores rituals and traditions within the Mayan culture but is presented in the language of contemporary art.

In Gallery V, a large carpet made by Åsa Elzén is displayed. The work is a “copy” of another carpet, called En Träda (A barrack), made by Maja and Amelie Fjæstad in 1919-1920. The exhibition also contains extensive archival materials related to the original carpet and the Fogelstad Group, as well as sound, video, photography, and objects related to the history of En Träda and everyday life on the farm.
