A part of Jannik Abel’s artistic work is to teach the art of wood carving and thereby recreate a deeper connection with nature. Abel believes that in order to stop the destruction of nature, we must get closer to it. The wood carving workshop is part of Abel’s ongoing project, The Reconnector Project. So far, over 1000 children have learned the tradition of wood carving with a knife alongside Jannik Abel, and over 200 adults have learned to use an axe.
“The most important thing may not be the actual wood carving, but that we gather outdoors in nature, with the wood close to our skin and the silence that descends when doing something entirely natural”
