To honour African cinema, Touki is showing one of the greatest African movies; Touki Bouki by Djibril Diop Mambety from 1973. Not only is Touki Bouki a stunning movie about finding oneself, dreaming of a better life and post-colonial Senegal, the movie also inspired the name Touki.
After the screening Touki will have a discussion circle where they talk and reflect about the movie. They recommend reading up on Senegal and its history and cultures to get the most out of the movie.
We are super excited to show this movie as a testament to what black/African cinema is and can be.
