Dramaturgs are guardians and conservators of the performing arts. At their best, they serve the art form as invisible bridge builders between theory and practice, art and science, reason and emotion. BIT Teatergarasjen's aim is for Bergen to be a beacon for developing pioneering work in dramaturgy for the independent performing arts field, including contemporary dance – both in a national and European context. The need for dramaturgs in the field is precarious and Bergen municipality has expressed a clear desire to invest in the development of dramaturgy as a professional field.
BIT Teatergarasjen notice a clear absence of professional education in performing arts in Bergen,
but have close collaboration with a number of strong institutions that want to further develop Bergen as a performing arts city. In collaboration with Dramatikkens Hus and the University of Bergen, we invite Norwegian and international dramaturgs, artists and academics to assist us with their insight into how a venture for the field of dramaturgy can take shape.
