The prizes are artworks by Bergen-based or Bergen-related artists, just as in the early days of Bergens Kunstforening (Bergen Fine Art Society). Works by the Bergen painter I.C. Dahl, one of the founders of the society, were purchased for the first lottery in 1839, when 17 works by Norwegian artists were given to members in a raffle. A generation later, several works by Edvard Munch, whose work is currently presented comprehensively by our neighbour KODE, were on the prize lists in connection with his solo exhibitions at Bergens kunstforening in 1895, 1902, 1909 and 1915.

If you want to be involved and see the history of art take form, participation in this year’s Christmas Lottery is just one of many good reasons to start or extend your membership at Bergen Kunsthall – Bergens Kunstforening this season. You will have the chance to win an original work of art with your membership number.

A highlight of the winter season for the members is the traditional Christmas Lottery held each first Sunday in Advent. Then we spin the old tombola and offer exciting art experiences and lots of Christmas spirit.
