Xylouris White Utmark presents   Landmark  Concert

George Xylouris from Crete has sung and played laouto since he was a kid and toured for many years with his father Antonis Xylouris, better known as Psarandonis, a local legend that for many years have pushed the limits of Greek folk music.

During one of the tours with his father George met the Australian drummer Jim White, known from the instrumental trio The Dirty Three, and the unconventional and avant-garde band Venom P. Stinger from the early 90's. White has also played with artists such as PJ Harvey – who once said, "there is ballet in White's light, precise touch" - Cat Power and Nick Cave. Xylouris' and Whites friendship goes back to 1990, but their musical collaboration did not take form until 2014. After refining the laouto’s solo potential of many years, Xylouris welcomed collaboration with White as a musical challenge.

The debut album Goats was released under the name Xylouris White and was described by Pitchfork as "an album that moves between Indian, Eastern European, African, Middle Eastern, Western, and Mediterranean modes. There is jazz and punk here along with dashes of bluegrass, klezmer, and folk, and yet it's all conveyed seamlessly. " Xylouris and White played together at the Sydney Festival in 2015 before going on a world tour. Their second album, Black Peaks, was released on the Bella Union label in 2016, while Mother came out early in 2018. All three albums are produced by Guy Picciotto (Fugazi).
