The photographer and video artist Bård Ask is known for his characteristic photographic and filmatic technique, which involves multiple reflections of the given motif.
The photographs in NO.5 ar based on satellite pictures - picked from the internet - of politically infected areas, such as Beirut, Bagdad and the bombed Abu Ghraib Palace. The title Contemporary Decorative Political patterns says something about the ambiguity of Ask´s photographs; the artistic alternation between political message and decorative form. The pictures reflect beauty, as a knd of embellishment of the grotesque.
